Back to basics: connecting with nature and with ourselves

Although it plays a crucial role in our everyday lives, agriculture is often underappreciated and misunderstood. While we are only scratching the surface, the plans for our tiny acre include raising small farm animals, growing their feed, growing and harvesting our own fruits and vegetables and establishing outdoor areas to facilitate activities for learning practical skills.

Gardening

Harvesting Healthy Bodies

By emphasizing the origin of our food and teaching sustainable ways to cultivate it, children gain an appreciation for the bounty our earth provides. This exposure aims to encourage exploration of new flavors, making healthy choices for themselves and growing a mindfulness for nature conservation.

Animal Husbandry

Raising Compassionate Hearts

Caring for animals instills a sense of responsibility and requires a physical, mental and emotional investment. At Homegrown, our children share the duty of raising a variety of small animals and will in turn learn more about the life cycles of those species in their day-to-day care.

Practical Skills

Weaving Together Independence, Efficiency & Creativity

Children learn about culture and the human experience by actively participating in daily life with us. From following a recipe to mending clothing to having the responsibility of keeping a neat space, we grow a sense of self and a sense of belonging when children are granted the opportunity to observe and contribute. These manual and critical thinking skills, coupled with the wonderment of childhood, have the power to yield amazingly creative projects and products of expression.

Emotional Well-Being

Prioritizing mental health, self-awareness and healthy social interactions

Before we can contribute to the world around us in a positive way, we must nurture our inner selves. At Homegrown we believe, especially in times like these, that a child's emotional intelligence should be as equally valued as their academic intelligence.
We encourage personal autonomy by daily practice of:
Emotional check-ins
Guided Meditation &
Peer Group Discussion, to name a few.
